VR Incursion Adelaide Case Study: Immersive Tech Day at Tyndale Christian School

When Tyndale Christian School wanted to give their High Ability Learning cohort a genuine, hands-on introduction to immersive technology, without the cost or complexity of building it into the timetable long-term, they brought in Reality Bytes Media for a one-day VR incursion designed around real-world sustainability challenges.

The brief
Tyndale’s High Ability Learning Curriculum Leader, Cassandra Quast, wanted students to engage with the UN Sustainable Development Goals in a format that went beyond the classroom combining STEM skills, design thinking, and collaborative problem-solving in a way their existing HASS curriculum didn’t have the resourcing to deliver alone.
Around 25 students took part across Years 7 to 9, spending a full school day immersed in virtual reality, from first principles through to a live pitch.

What the day covered
- Presenting on immersive technologies, current industry use cases, and Cameron’s own career experience building VR content for institutional clients.
- Teaching students how to develop their own VR projects, using Delightex to design and build inside virtual environments.
- Guiding student groups through sustainability challenges, where each team selected a UN Sustainable Development Goal, designed a VR solution, and pitched it (both verbally and via a live VR demo) by the end of the day.
- Supplying five Meta Quest 3 headsets so every group could explore and present their creations in-headset, not just on a screen.

In the students’ own projects
Four groups took their projects through to a finished, presentable state:
- Sustainable City — SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Affordable Housing — SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Clean Water Access — SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
- Coral Reef Robot — SDG 14: Life Below Water

Cassandra also noted the wider value for a school without existing immersive tech resourcing: “The ability for them to actually play with something physical, the ability for them to engage in something current, is a massive advantage… it opens up fields that they haven’t had experience in before.”
What the students said
Post-workshop survey responses from participating students back this up. Across the group:
- Average enjoyment rating of 4.4 out of 5
- 100% of students said they’d recommend a workshop like this to other students
- 85% said the immersive tech format was more engaging than their regular classroom methods
- Consistent agreement that the day helped them understand how immersive technology is used in the real world.

Some of the feedback in the students’ own words:
- “I knew almost nothing to start with and knew more about VR than what I assume the average human knows by the end.”
- “I would enjoy being able to create my own 3D experiences, for educational and tourism purposes.”
- “I learnt that technologies, particularly coding, can be difficult, so we should appreciate it more.”
The most common piece of feedback was a simple one: students wanted more time in the headsets. This is a great sign of genuine engagement, and something later programs have built in more of.
