This school holidays, Reality Bytes Media teamed up with the City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters to host Headset Heroes virtual reality workshops.
“When I found out that there was a VR course on, I really wanted to go. It’s coding, and I can do it in VR! What else could I ask for?” – Noah, Year 8 student
Over two awesome days, attendees aged between 10-15 got to play with Meta Quest 3 VR headsets and learn how to design and develop their very own VR games to play on them.
Students also learned how to create custom 3D models to import into their projects. From racecars to robot turtles, we were blown away by their creativity!

Students also learned about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and developed VR simulations containing solutions to support these goals.
One student developed an underwater simulation with robot turtles that collected rubbish from the seabed floor to support goal number 14 (Life Below Water). What an innovative and fun way to approach this issue!
Another student built a wildlife conservation sanctuary with endangered animals such as gorillas to support goal number 15 (Life on Land).

To wrap up both days, friends and family of the students joined us towards the end of the workshops and experienced their VR creations. There was plenty of laughter and delight to go around as parents navigated through chaotic winter wonderlands and lively jungles!
Reality Bytes continues to run Headset Heroes with other councils such as the City of Mitcham and Marion, and are always looking to work with new partners to deliver these highly engaging virtual reality workshops for youth.
Whether you’re from a council, school, or other organisation, we highly recommend getting in touch with Reality Bytes to run Headset Heroes VR workshops for your community!
